Calm Under Pressure – Stress Regulation Techniques

Practical techniques for managing stress, maintaining focus and responding more effectively under pressure.

Pressure is a natural part of many professional environments. Tight deadlines, difficult conversations, demanding clients and continuous decision-making can influence attention, communication and our ability to respond effectively.

This interactive 8-hour workshop introduces practical approaches to stress regulation and explores how participants can recognize their own stress responses and respond to them more intentionally.

The workshop combines a demonstration using Muse neurofeedback technology with practical, device-free techniques that participants can apply independently in everyday situations.

The emphasis is not on eliminating stress, but on developing greater awareness and a practical repertoire of strategies for working with pressure.

What You’ll Learn

During the workshop, participants will explore:

  • How the stress response can influence attention, behaviour and decision-making

  • How to recognize early signs of increasing stress and tension

  • Practical breathing techniques for supporting calm, focus and regulation

  • The relationship between breathing, posture, movement and perceived stress

  • Techniques for shifting attention and returning focus to the present situation

  • Short regulation practices that can be incorporated into the working day

  • Ways to select and practise techniques according to individual needs and situations

  • How technology such as neurofeedback can provide additional insight into relaxation and attention

Neurofeedback Demonstration with Muse

The workshop includes a live demonstration using a Muse headband with a volunteer participant.

Muse uses sensors to provide real-time feedback related to physiological signals during exercises such as focused attention, breathing and relaxation.

The demonstration provides participants with a practical illustration of how changes in attention, breathing and relaxation can be reflected in feedback from the technology.

The purpose of the demonstration is educational. Muse is used as a tool for awareness and learning within the workshop and not for medical diagnosis or treatment.

Importantly, the techniques introduced during the workshop do not require participants to own or use a Muse device. The goal is to understand and practise approaches that can subsequently be used independently.

Practical and Interactive Approach

The workshop combines concise explanations, demonstration, guided exercises and individual practice.

Participants have the opportunity to practise techniques and consider how they could apply them in situations such as:

  • difficult client or customer conversations,

  • presentations and important meetings,

  • tight deadlines,

  • demanding decision-making,

  • consecutive meetings with limited recovery time,

  • situations requiring sustained concentration.

Participants are encouraged to experiment with different approaches and identify techniques that are practical and useful for their individual working environment.

What Participants Take Away

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • A better understanding of their own stress responses

  • Practical techniques for relaxation and self-regulation

  • Breathing and attention practices that can be used without equipment

  • Strategies for recognizing and responding to increasing tension

  • Experience applying regulation techniques to workplace situations

  • A simple framework for developing their own short daily practice

  • Supporting materials for continued practice after the workshop

The aim is to provide participants with practical tools for greater awareness, self-regulation and maintaining focus when working under pressure.
